Help Improve this Newsletter: Survey Results

Last month we asked for you help in improving this
newsletter by means of a short survey. Here are the results.
(If you would like to fill in the survey you can still do
so, either at
or by e-mailing January's newsletter with your replies.
Thanks very much if you have the time to do this.)

I'm pleased to say that all of the respondants were very
or fairly interested in Events for the under-fives, News,
Special Offers and Reviews of play centres. Over 70%
liked the "What's new at the website" section and the
book reviews. 60% were interested in ideas to raise
funds for your groups and 40% were very or fairly
interested in the adverts. Nobody was "not at all
interested in the adverts".

The current mix of items in the newsletter seems
therefore to suit most people - let us know if you

We had most replies from people living in Staffordshire,
closely followed by those in Derbyshire. Cheshire and
Nottinghamshire were also represented plus one
family from Middlesex who often visit Staffordshire.

Fish in pregnancy benefits the baby
Eating fish and seafood during pregnancy has long-
lasting benefits for the child, a UK study has
suggested. There were fears surrounding the possible
toxic damage from eating fish during pregnancy but
this study seems to be saying that is a minor problem
compared with the major benefits children get from fish.

UK Bottom of Table of Children's Well-Being
The UK has been accused of failing its children, as
it comes bottom of a league table for child well-being
across 21 industrialised countries. One of the report's
  authors said that under-investment and a "dog-eat-dog"
society were to blame for Britain's poor performance.

Breastfeeding good for mothers
Breastfeeding is well known to boost an infant's
health, and now it seems it may be good for the
mother as well. Those who had spend at least two
years (!) of their lives breastfeeding were 19 per
cent less likely to suffer a heart attack than those
who hadn't breastfed at all. Benefits however are
thought to occur for mothers who breastfeed for at
  least 3 months.
