A pre- school offers learning and play activities for children aged between around two and five, for about 3 hours a day. Pre-schools are registered and inspected annually by OFSTED to make sure they are appropriately staffed and resourced. Half the staff must hold a formal childcare and early education qualification. http://www.under-fives.org/preschool.html Playgroups At a "parent and tots" or playgroup you stay with your child throughout the session, which usually lasts a couple of hours. We now have more playgroups listed at the site at http://www.under-fives.org/playgroup.html Childminders There are more childminders listed at http://www.under-fives.org/childminders.html Central Forest Park A reader recommends Central Forest Park in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. The park boasts a large lake, junior and toddler play facilities and a health and nature trail. http://www.under-fives.org/attraction.html __________________________________________________________ Chatsworth House: Fab Farmyard and Adventure Playground ------------------------------------------------------- I would like to recommend the farmyard and adventure playground at Chatsworth House. What a fab time had by all, and really good value for money. As we were in a party of 6, it only cost £4.00 each. My four children (aged 11, 6, 4 and 3) were fascinated with the animals and once we reached the adventure playground, I didn't see them for dust - I even managed to have a relaxing sit down and cup of coffee before I had to drag them away. Entertainment value: 10/10 Value for money: 10/10 Return visit: Definitely - requested by the children. Congratulations to the staff at Chatsworth, for providing educational, fun and healthy entertainment for all the family - without ripping off the parents! Review by Alison Shelton.
